Student Thesis Binding

If you are a student studying for an under-graduate or post-graduate degree, you will find as part of the course, a Thesis/Dissertation will be a large contribution to the award of the degree. On completion, most universities require you to submit your work in a ‘Book-Bound’ format. All universities give guidelines to how your work should be presented. At Abbey Bookbinding all work can be carried out to all UK university specification.

Can I send my work by post?

Yes. Please check our location for address details. It is recommended that you send all work by Registered Delivery - especialy if you have a tight dead-line!

I'm not local. Can you deliver?

Of course we can! We bind work for students all over the UK, at to all university regulations. We use an excelent courier service with 24 hour delivery at a very reasonable price.

What if, after binding, I need pages altered?

We hope this is not nescessary, but any alterations can be made quickly and without any fuss, though there would be a small additional charge.

What print setup should I use? Do you have guidlines for margins, paper weight, etc?

I need four copies of my thesis, do I have to have all of them in the same colour?

No! Not at all. We have a choice of over 25 colours in stock, and another 50 special order colours. A small additional charge would apply for a colour we do not hold in stock.

Can you duplicate from my origional?

Yes. We have mono and colour digital photocopying facilities with fast, high quality results.

Can you print from disk?

Yes. We accept any modern media including Floppy Disk, CD/DVD, Flash Drives, SD Cards, etc.

Can I email my work?

Yes. Once your work has been received we will send you a reply to confirm all attachments are ok.

What is the best file format for my work?

The PDF standard is the usual method for publishers and printers to transfer files. If you do not have the facilities to create PDF documents, or IT department can convert most file formats including MS Office formats (Word, Excel, etc)

I am concerned that if I send my work as a word attachment, the document will reformat. Is there any way this can be avoided?

Yes. When sending the email, please inform us of the operating system the document was created on, which version of MS Office was used (if known) and the number of pages in the file. This can then be cross checked when we recieve the file. If we have reason to believe something may have changed we will contact you.

I have all of my work in a seperate files. Is this ok?

There is no problem with sending your work in seperate files. Please ensure that all files are numbered and you clearly inform us of the correct order for printing and binding.

I cannot create 1 file of my work because I have a problem inserting Roman Numbers and page numbers in the same file. What can I do?

The simple answer would be to split the work into separate files with roman numeral pagination in one file, and latin numbering in another.

How long will it take?

Calling into our office for a simple method of binding, such as Wiro/Spiral or Thermal Binding, etc. can usually be done while you wait. Soft bound copies with gold embossing takes 24 hours, and hardback binding takes 3-4 working days.

What if I need it quicker?

We also offer a 24 hour and a 48 hour service at additional cost.

Is it possible to complete hardback binding on the same day?

Providing we have 2 weeks prior notice, this is possible.

I want to email my work but I only have hard copies of my appendices - what can I do?

Appendices can either be scanned and inserted into the file or, if this is not possible, hard copies can be sent via post or brought to our office.
